Im/migrant-Owned Mini Markt

KAMA DC and the Heurich Urban Manufacturing Incubator present the 3rd annual Im/migrant-Owned Mini Markt on Saturday, June 22nd, 2024 from 3-8 pm in the Heurich House Museum’s biergarten, 1921. The Markt falls during National Immigrant Heritage Month, Civic Season, and the National Week of Making; by commemorating these communities, we are collectively engaging in a civic action. Many of the local small-scale manufacturers the incubator works with are immigrants.
Shop from 10 immigrant-owned small local businesses at a special Mini Markt curated by KAMA DC while sipping on local craft beverages and chatting with partners from local organizations supporting immigrants. The Heurich House Museum’s education team will pop-up in the garden with artifacts and records documenting historic immigrants from the Heurich story.

The museum was once the home of brewmaster Christian Heurich, who immigrated to the U.S. in 1866 from Germany. Today, the museum explores the American Experience through the legacy of historic Heurich household staff, brewery workers, and the craftspeople who built the home — many of whom were immigrants — while also supporting DC’s modern workers, creating a more equitable path to success for small-scale manufacturers.

The biergarten features fresh local craft beer from DC breweries and an opportunity to explore HOME/BREWED, an exhibit featuring 1,000 objects from the historic Heurich brewery. Masks are recommended in indoor spaces. The 1921 Biergarten supports the museum’s Small Business Development programs.
