Celebrating freedom goes beyond mere acknowledgment. It goes deeper than a buzzword we toss around on holidays. True freedom means recognizing that not everyone’s freedom is “free.” In many ways, Juneteenth serves as a reminder of how freedom and liberation have been continually delayed or denied, especially for Black Americans. If freedom is to be a universally shared value, we must first reflect on how we’ve gotten here–and the evolution of what freedom means today. So, what does it mean to be free? True freedom–and true collective change–begins with your individual perspective. Your voice and story has the powerful ability to inspire and reshape our understanding of what it means to be free.
