Join the UIS Center for Lincoln Studies for a special presentation and discussion on Abraham Lincoln’s political rival, Stephen A. Douglas. Reg Ankrom author of “Stephen A. Douglas: The Political Apprenticeship, 1833-1843” and “Stephen A. Douglas, Western Man: The Early Years in Congress, 1844-1850” will give a presentation and discusses surprising facts about Stephen A. Douglas with Dr. Graham Peck, Wepner Distinguished Professor of Lincoln Studies at UIS.

Stephen A. Douglas was an American politician and lawyer from Illinois. He served as a senator, secretary of state, and an Illinois Supreme Court Justice. Most remember him as a political rival of Abraham Lincoln’s and one of two Democratic Party nominees for president in the 1860 presidential election, which was won by Republican Abraham Lincoln.

But who was Douglas without Abraham Lincoln? Discover more about Stephen A. Douglas at our program “The Surprising Stephen A. Douglas”

After the program we will have a question and answer session with Reg Ankrom and Dr. Graham Peck.
