IX at 50: The Lady Vols Experience is an oral history project that celebrates the work of legendary UT Coach Pat Summitt and the UT Women’s Athletics family in working towards greater equality. Lady Vols have been at the forefront pioneering Title IX’s sports effects, helping generations of women reap the sport + education benefits of this landmark legislation–in the United States and globally. This is the UT footprint and legacy vis-a-vis Title IX, the Title IX Titans who have laid the foundations for today’s superheroes to leave a lasting impact on and off the field.
Co-hosted by Center for Sport, Peace & Society Director Dr. Sarah J. Hillyer and LaVonna Martin Floreal, a two-time track and field Olympian (silver, 1992 Barcelona) and 1989 UT alumna, this 12-episode audio package features intergenerational international women’s stories about the Title IX impact on Lady Vols, their careers, and lessons learned. The series is available via several podcast streaming services, including Apple, Google, and Spotify–and amplified on our Instagram (@sportandpeaceut), Twitter (@sportandpeaceut), or Facebook accounts.
