Civic Season is a summer tradition to learn history and civics so that we can shape the future of our communities and country. It is held every year between Juneteenth and July 4th, our oldest and newest federal holidays.
During Civic Season, you can find hundreds of events and activities to grow your skills, from exhibits to podcasts, pizza parties to bike tours, book lists to volunteering – brought to you by history museums and historic sites across the country. Recognizing the importance of U.S. history and the sites that preserve it, Mars Wrigley and AMERICAN HERITAGE® Chocolate have supported Civic Season — and the hundreds of participating museums — since its launch in 2021.
By taking part in this annual tradition, you’ll learn, celebrate, connect with others, and most importantly — flex your Civic Superpowers!

FAQS
What is the Civic Season?
It’s a dedicated time between Juneteenth and July 4th where we come together to celebrate and contemplate our roles in our communities and country. Powered by museums and historic sites, and activated by YOU, Civic Season invites everyone to play a role — learning, growing, attending events and volunteering.
Who’s behind Civic Season?
Made By Us is a nonpartisan, nationwide coalition of history museums, historic sites and historical societies as well as educational organizations, libraries and archives, all joining forces to connect younger generations with U.S. history and civics information. Since 2019, our award-winning programs, content and activations have informed and inspired millions of people with multi-perspective history and civics information from credible sources.
Why did we create the Civic Season?
Understanding our past is essential for shaping our future – but as adults, there’s not a lot of dedicated time or space to explore history! Civic Season, anchored by our newest and oldest federal holidays, Juneteenth and July 4th, is the focused, celebratory time to do just that. During this annual tradition, hundreds of communities offer ways to rekindle your connection to the American story, understand “how we got here” and find your individual skills and interests to shape the next chapter.
How can I volunteer or attend an event?
Explore the directory! There, you can search by state to find events to attend, or activities to do on your own. To volunteer, contact Nia Mosby, Program Manager, at Nia@HistoryMadeByUs.org.
What else is there to do?
There’s so much available! Whether you have 5 minutes to spare or two hours, are looking for something social or solo, want to learn something new or just practice your skills, you’ll find what you’re looking for at TheCivicSeason.com. From bike tours to community service projects, podcasts to exhibits, quizzes to pizza parties, there’s a wide range of ways to engage, learn, and contribute.
Why is Mars involved?
As longtime supporters of history and cultural heritage, Mars Wrigley empowers museums and historic sites to collect, preserve and share our stories for generations to come. Mars Wrigley and AMERICAN HERITAGE® Chocolate have been integral to the development of Made By Us and Civic Season since its inception, helping millions of Americans connect with their communities, learn history and contribute to civic life. As Mars associates participate in Civic Season, we’ll garner our collective civic impact score to let us know how we’re growing and improving!
What is my Civic Superpower? Why should I take the quiz?
Your Civic Superpower – Connector, Amplifier, Defender or Nurturer – is that unique special skill you bring to your community. Taking the quiz is a fun way to learn more about your civic strengths and discover activities to boost your skills! Plus, you can share with colleagues to compare results.
